The First 7 Steps of Your Journey
Congratulate yourself - It takes enlightened leadership to not settle for status quo.
Define the need for the journey - how would the world be different if your journey never took place?
Check your provisions - What are you taking with you, and more importantly, what are you willing to leave behind? What aspects of your business are “sacred” and what things would you be willing to change in order to meet your goals.
Check your charts - It's important for us to completely analyze what is currently knowable; there are risks and then are unintelligent risks.
Define your sea serpents - what are the things that you perceive to be the biggest threats to your goals?
Define success - It's worth reminding ourselves that Columbus thought he landed in the Far East; your destination is more knowable than his was.
Commit to the quest - Every single entry in Columbus’ logs began with the phrase, “On this day we sailed...”; regardless of what happened that day -threats of mutiny, storms, or sails full of helping winds - he was focused and committed to the journey in total. There were hundreds of opportunities for him to turn around. He didn't.
